Pirate Worship

Ran across this site today.

A disclaimer: I don't think that ridiculously funny stuff is inherently absent of meaning. Some of the stuff these guys are saying (as humorous as it is) is exhortation worth heeding and, quite honestly, can be ridiculously scary as well. (i.e. Are we headed in the wrong direction? Have we totally wrecked what Scripture meant by the body of Christ?). Check it out-- you'll see what I mean.

How bout this? I see humor in it. I hope you do as well. Worship leader...a mockery.

Good stuff...

The sign in his hands reads, "I am the church" in Czech.

Read Joe Gordon's musings on the same image...

Big Nate Hughes making it happen. Thanks, Nate, for the gentle reminder...

Christmas decor

I'm no scrooge. I love Christmas just as much as the next guy. But seriously, wreaths and trees and ornaments and Christmas marketing are meant for AFTER Thanksgiving. Please take your tinsel and misteltoe and Christmas lights and holly and garland down and show a little patience.

Food poisoning sucks.

In case you were confused or just plain unaware, food poisoning really, really sucks. I woke up yesterday morning about 3 am. Let's stop there and gain perspective, shall we? I have seen 3 am because I've been "up until..." a thousand times..."Up at"? That's a totally different story. So, because I was, in fact, "up at" 3 am is cause for concern to begin with. I didn't feel good-- I really, really did not feel good at all. I was nauseous and I thought, "If I just lie here very still and quiet, I'll sleep it off." 10 minutes later I walked out of the master bedroom where I should have been sleeping and into the guest bathroom only to emerge moments later having officially "puked my brains out". I thought, "Good, now that that's over, I'll get back to bed and get plenty of sleep." I must have been delusional. Not an hour later (and no sleep at all might I add), I'm up out of bed again, out of the master, into the guest bathroom, and...well, you get the drift. I pretty much barfed all day-- finished up about 5-- wa-hoo! What a day.

More than anything, I missed being at church last night. I was really looking forward to studying those passages-- Jude, Philemon, and 3 John. And, I was really looking forward to worship. Man, I was bummed. I also wanted to know what you all thought. I was looking forward to hanging out at dinner afterward and asking, "What'd ya think?" to anyone and everyone. Soooo, what'd ya think? I'd love to hear from you. Shoot me an e-mail if you were at soma last night and let me know how it went. See ya next week...I hope.

It's a matter of distribution...

I had lunch with my buddy Greg yesterday and he brought up an old conversation that is worth revisiting on a regular basis. The general question is this: "What's up with world hunger?" The more specific questions are a little more convicting: "Why do I spend $20 a week on coffee? How is it that I go to a restaraunt, eat 'till I'm stuffed, have a dessert, and still throw away a good portion of food? Do I ever think about (honestly) what I can do to help? Do I ignore significant issues like this one because it's just easier that way?" and so on and so forth. I'm not saying that Starbucks and Cheescake Factory are wrong (in fact, I'm sipping a Starbucks coffee as I jot this blog), but those seem like good questions to ask don't you think?

Let me drop this on ya: some of you reading this may already know this but some may not. For those who don't, did you know that there are enough resources in the world to feed every last one of us? In other words, starvation and world hunger do not come from a lack of resources but from an unequal distribution of resources.

For me, this is the bottom line: Am I part of the problem or part of the solution? Facing that question head on and impartially is not what I wanted to do with my Thursday...
